I have to say though...the general lack of vegis in some of these (specifically the US diet) was striking.

LOL! I was just wondering what it would do to the budget ;-)

anyhow, the US diet may be striking, but unfortunately it's not surprising. The USDA has done a great disservice to America with their "food pyramid" (which, once it was pointed out how unbalanced it was, was just put it on its side to try and confuse people). But that's what we get for learning nutrition from an organization which has economic well-being as their goal...

just by looking at all that junk food makes me feel sick...
i should get to the grocery store and buy more food. like right now. lol.

I know, when I went to the store on Monday I picked up some pre-packaged couscous and pilaf and then thought to myself, "What the hell, I could make these up from raw ingredients!" Then I realized I have no idea where to find 'raw couscous'...*grin*
