Oh my Gawd, oh my Gawd, oh my Gawd!

So, hubby and I headed out to Mo-lesto (Modesto) this weekend and met with our gunsmith to pick up our powder horns. It turns out, no one has ever asked Dale to make this style of horn before. How do you think he did?

Now, they aren't the 'doughnut' horns that I thought we were getting, but I am NOT complaining. This shape is also *very* accurate for the period and I head a mini-heart attack when I saw that Dale had used the German card suites - hearts, leaves, bells and acorns - to decorate my flask with.

Oh, and dice! *evil grin* That man, I loves him!

Hubby and I have a bet as to how long it will take Tonda to snatch this from me and turn it into a whiskey flask...

Hubby had asked for a 'less ornate' horn. When Dale asked what he wanted in the central medallion, I suggested a rampant boar, since that is hubby’s later period alter-ego's heraldic animal.

No, my husband is NOT a rampant bore...

The close ups:

It's hard to see them, but my flask has little pips of black wood all along the outer edge of the scrimshaw work.

These are terrific reproductions of the period pieces, right down to the mechanical spring for the spout closure. This is both very cool, and very dangerous; unlike a modern flask, when you open the spout you have access to the entire powder store in the body of the flask. *BIG BOOM* can happen if you end up with a spark in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hence, I will be getting the hard core training drill down before I ever light a match.

Dale is starting on my gun this week. *does a happy dance*

i trust Tonda's power of distraction, and plan to ride on her coattails to a new whisky flask ;-)

*sigh* You're right. Your pop and I are going to be very sad.

Then again, we know where you both live.

*evil grin*

I planted a big-ol' kiss on Dale's cheek later in the afternoon the day he gave them too us. He grinned and said that was quite a treat and I told him that I hadn't stopped giggling since he'd given me the powderflask.

I still really haven't stopped...

I do the same thing when I get something that I like... I show it off and giggle a lot... Like when I got my basket for the "backpack" that I told you about. Had to show everyone at work!

I'll post pics once I get the straps done and on, and the lining and lid attached...
