I just want to make enough money to buy a little island somewhere and move there with my family. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the reality of the lack of news coverage scares me. Even the BBC isn't reporting it. It's too busy following him around Europe as Bush tries to charm the EU and makes a fool out of himself.

If my husband wasn’t so well informed (and so willing to dig to get his news from alternative sources) I would have never heard of it either.

Having grown up with the threat of the Cold War, I had gotten to a point in my adult life where I was glad that having to worry about living in a post-apocalyptic fashion: Now my husband and I have a ‘ten year plan’ that includes buying some semi-remote property and building an energy efficient/solar/non-grid water & sewer, etc. house on it.

After living in a similar house on a family ranch/farm the whole time I was growing up because my parents were convinced that the bombs were going to fall any day.

Hummm…wonder if mom still has that old hand crank grain mill….?

You know, I don't like to think of myself as an isolationist or an over-reactionary idjit, but we're seriously talking about carving our bit out of somewhere remote and getting as far off the grid as we possibly can.

We grew up during the Cold War too. I thought we were finally safe. Now I feel less safe than I ever did before, and this time I don't think our government is going to fire back... because it's them doing the shooting!

I have a large group of close family members who are pretty right-wing reactionary: Pro-pro-pro gun, anti-anti-anti government. I remember when I used to think it was a hoot when they said that they would be ready for the day that the people of this country rebelled against their political leaders.

I don’t laugh so much anymore.

I do have to say, my one bright spot is here: www.jeffersonhour.org

I listen to Clay’s broadcasts regularly and hold ‘salons’ on a monthly basis to talk political/artistic/social talk with a group of 10-20 of my friends. We are from all over the map politically, but we manage to get along when it comes to discussing the things that ail this country.

That alone should scare a group of leaders that seem to depend on our divided nature to keep us in line.

I read this flyer at a local gun store. It listed the seven phases of society and something about us being in the seventh age, the one before collapse. I thought it was just some doomesday bullshit until I saw that it was written by an ancient Greek philosopher. But it was so accurately describing us, right now.

The path ahead seems pretty clear cut. Either a) we are going to go on in the same fashion and probably end up where Rome did (only much sooner, and with less fun parties along the way) or b) we are going to do some sort of radical reformation of our process and country and it won’t be the same place we all grew up in anymore.

Maybe “b” would be a nice change brought about by the election process as was designed by our original founders, or maybe we will all be joining some sort of pro-government youth movement – “Have a nice brown shirt darling, it’s good for you!”.

My optimistic nature hopes it's not too late for "b" as designed by our founders. I seriously fear the latter; I've never been good with any kind of conformity.

Thank you. :)

Getting it out of my system was needed - and I have enough readers who like the current administration that i'd be likely to get challenged to debate, when all I want to do is vent.

Yeah, this is your warning – I suck at ‘just letting people vent’. *grin* I usually want to comment in some way, even if I have to hijack the though into my own Journal! *chuckle*

Anywho, thank you for expressing my own frustrations with our nations political outlook/behavior so well. I have already written *multiple* letters to Ms. Pelosi, letting her know (in the nicest way possible) that her attempt a political fence building should have never included ‘taking impeachment off the table’. Never show all your cards you silly git….unless you want to play poker with me!

Boy, do I feel your pain! It seems like every time I want to vent and get a little support from my readers, they skewer me instead. Lately it's all I can do to keep posting.

Well if you do decide to go ‘under cover’ and post more privately, I hope you bring me along!

Of course I would. You're on my friends list.

But I'm unlikely to go private. The whole point of my having an LJ is to promote my business. I can't do that if I lock my posts.

Yeppers, I get it. Just keep me in mind when it is time to go island shopping! *chuckle*

I can see it now:

"Buy Reconstructing History products! We'll save a spot on the island for ya!" =)

That is why I am looking at islands in the Pacific NW: Not cheap, but I think I'd like the environment better...

This is why FreePress and Bill Moyers are so vocal. See my post from a couple of days ago.
