Past Weekend Notes

This past weekend was really nice: Saturday AM I got up early and started working on finalizing the cleaning for the Mother’s Day brunch we were prepping for the following day. Hubby was finally getting some sleep (insomniac) so I felt bad when I had to go wake him up at 10:00 AM to hit the farmers market. He and I ran errands all morning, including getting some items together for our new herb/chili gardens and picking up some last minute ingredients for brunch fixins. While we were getting our kitchen knives sharpened by the guy who comes out to the farmers market, hubby spotted a really nice slicer for a great price in the knife guys ‘for sale’ bins – we snagged it!
Once we got home we put away our purchases, planted our herbs/chilies, and got the quiches and home made breakfast sausage going for brunch the following day. We were working along steadily with the assistance of dragonwoman when we suddenly realized that it was almost time for our parents to show up for dinner/show!
Quick like bunnies and off into the shower while dragonwoman quiche-sat for us: I was out and ready to go when the in-laws showed up with my parents hot on their heels. Everyone relaxed for a couple of minutes on the couch and then we were off to Visalia to hit dinner at the Vintage Press (pricey, but damn good) and a show at the beautiful Fox Theater – Clay Jenkinson of the ‘Thomas Jefferson Hour’ doing a one man debate as both Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt. *chuckle* It was a terrific evening except for the back seat driving that hubby and I endured from our folks. *rolls eyes* I even got to shake Clay’s hand and chat with him for a minute – I had warned hubby that I would be flirting a bit.
What can I say? Older historians who are a little round in the middle and can talk for hours on end about topics that 90% of America doesn’t seem to give a crap about turn me on….*snort*
Then it was back to
Sunday AM I was up early and finishing the prep on the sausage (grinding) and the bacon and onion quiche (baking). Folks from our respective families started rolling in around 11:00 AM. Tons of fruit, fruit salad, homemade muffins and croissants arrived with them. As usual, our tiny kitchen was way too small for all of this activity, but we made it work! Everyone had a great time; we had calls for an encore next year and lots of compliments on the food we made for the event.
Once everyone made their way home, gryphonlsb came by and we ordered pizza for the evening. Things were great, and then suddenly I started getting these weird stomach cramps. This lead to an evening of WC visits that never seemed to end, and which were more painful with each trip. I have *never* had this sort of fight with my digestive track before, not even with the worst cases of food poisoning I have encountered to date. And I have no idea what brought it on…*le sigh* I finally got enough of a break in the constant marathon of dashes to the bathroom and fell asleep around midnight.
The weekend was TERRIFIC and I am so happy that I got to see my family and friends and that we all got a chance to enjoy a couple of nice days together. Seems likely that we will do this again next year, fingers crossed to avoid a repeat of the last hours of Sunday night!
PS: If there was a bummer to this weekend besides my bout of intestinal issue, it was missing our friends out at

Date: 2008-05-12 10:12 pm (UTC)Stupid LJ and it's silly need to F-up every post I make in MS format and then cut-and-paste. I know there are ways to fix this, but I can't download anything on my work computer (programs) and I tend to post from here more often than not.
I thought I had reviewed the silly thing before posting and it was fine.
*@^#%$
Fixed now!

Date: 2008-05-13 01:34 pm (UTC)Interestingly, I, too, felt kind of nauseated when we got back to WA, actually laid around in bed wondering if I was going to be doing any "dashing" myself (but I didn't). Don't think it was related to the food - only thing I ate was a slice of each quiche (divine!), a few sausage patties, and the mimosas.
Can't wait to do it again next year, just hope I can spend more time!
P.S. How did you like "Iron Man"? I really thought RDJ did a great job, and can't wait for the next one in the franchise! (you *did* stay for the part after the end credits, right?)
Love you!

Date: 2008-05-13 03:47 pm (UTC)I don't know if the issue with the tummies was the food or just some bug that we are passing back and forth. I hope it is a bug, but I guess if I hear from more folks that they didn't feel well then I will know it was the food! *eeps*
I am supposed to go see IM tonight, so I will let you know what I think of it later! *grin*
Love you sissy!
