I am looking to up my carbs/fiber intake. CalorieKing (which I have been using for almost a year now) tracks all this nutritional information and I have been ignoring it. Up until last week I was just using the program to track calories-in vs. calories-out. I finally got around to reading enough of the programs available dietary advice data to realize I could actually set nutritional goals that would be helpful and productive for me.

Instead of just running 5,000 miles in a day so I can eat cookies and ice cream in the evening. This is an exaggeration of course. Sometimes.

*rolls eyes at own ignorance*

So, goals are:

Fat intake:       20% - 35%
Carb intake:     45% - 65%
Protein intake: 10% - 35%
With 20 – 30 g of fiber daily.

It has been one week of paying more attention and, so far, so good! I identified some good-carb and fiber sources via the program, spent some extra time at Trader Joe’s on Saturday reading labels and the result is that I can pretty easily incorporate what I need into the regular meals I am already eating by simply changing out/adding a couple things here and there.

Brilliant!

While I am talking about things I am eating (which, I don’t normally do on LJ, I don’t think…), I am IN LOVE with my recurring breakfast!

**Hsifengs Breakfast Parfait of LOVE**

5-6 oz non-fat Greek yogurt
1 Tbls honey (locally harvested)
1 tsp bee pollen (locally harvested – it’s an allergy thing)
2 Tbls Flaxseed meal (fiber, fiber, fiber! but almost no sugar!)
5-6 strawberries, sliced
20-25 blueberries
5-7 blackberries
1/2 cup multigrain hot cereal mix (I am on a kick about getting more variety in my grain intake)
1/2 cup Hemp Plus Granola

Mix it all together for a Super Yummy and nutritious breakfast. This thing is easy to make, full of good stuff and keeps me full and energy filled for hours. *hugs yogurt goodness*

I have gone so far as to pack multi-day 'to go' set ups of my breakfast (each item in it's own container, all packed in an overnighter soft-sided ice chest) the last three times I have gone out of town for the weekend.

Honestly, my day just isn't as nice if I don't get my parfait!
