Tie Me Up... (Putting the "Bang" on a Leash; Part the Second)

There was much fingerloop braid making this weekend. I have officially corrupted a couple of 'old school' West Coast frau into making Steuchleins based on my crazy "layers" theories (BTW - [livejournal.com profile] sstormwatch, we need to get together and take some photos soon!).

The fingerlooping on the ties for the Wulsts lead into fingerlooping some "lace bend" samples for the powderhorn hangers (thank you Gina!):

Original Lace Bend Cord
.

My Lace Bend Samples

Sample on the left is a four loop in wool yarn, on the right is an eight loop in cotton embroidery floss. I think the wool yarn is closer to the original in 'texture' and in size in relation to the flask (although I am begining to suspect that my flask is larger than the museum example I am using). The problem with the wool cording is that it is *too* large to fit well through the "leash loops" on the flask. For this reason, I may well end up using the embroidery cord instead.

The good news is, these aren't that hard to make (I think the emblishments on the ends will be more time consuming that then braids themselves). I have figured out how to double the braidable length by working a long cord from both sides of a mid-point per the instructions here

*yippeee!*

Nice! and thanks for sharing that doc on doing longer cords.

Not a problem, I can show you the 'lace bend' in a matter of minutes when you have some time.

It's a great braid to work, isn't it? You may well find you end up with lots of items with the 'bend' hanging from it ;)

I think you are very right about that! It looks good, is nice and sturdy and is *so* simple once you get going on it. Thank you again for pointing that out to me!

BTW - A friend of mine has decided that I must own your "Tak V Bowes Departed" book and will probably be ordering a copy shortly for shipment to California. Just thought you'd like to know I am spreading the love! *grin*

Don't you have a number of other 'booklet' titles? Are any of them still in print and available? *points at self* Fact-o-Phile/Bibliophile here...

Sorry for the slackness in replying!
With regards to the other titles, they aren't in print any more, (we haven't quite decided what we are doing with these at present), but I do have some in stock of a few titles (though not all). If you go over to the Soper Lane site (www.soper-lane.co.uk) you'll see descriptions of what they are.

Thankees! Sad to see that the fringe & textile purse books are not available - but I will keep an eye out to see if you guys come up with a reprint at some point...

Time to start saving my pennies for the girtle books.
