Women's Schaube Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

Alrighty, I am starting to get my head to work on a couple new German pieces for this next year, maybe even for an event at the end of this month….*raises eyebrows speculatively*. One will be a dress – but that is for another rant post. Right now I am thinking about my Schaube. That’s right, I am finally talking about reviving this project.

BTW – jillwheezul, I also noticed that you helped with the translations of this piece at the Elizabethan Costume site; have I mentioned that I am forever indebted to you for your translation work?

I want to recreate a Schaube closely based on this version:


The long sleeves with the ‘cut through’ peeps with their trim. The drape of the garment. The falling collar of fur. Depending on how the fur repair goes, I may even use some bits to line the sleeve peeps with (trying to give the illusion of a full fur lining).

I did notice that the ‘later period’ version of this garment – see the link to mmcnealy’s journal above – seems to have ‘buttons’ on the upper sleeve vents which are visible on the upper arms in the rear view of the item. I love this idea and know how to make some kick ass covered buttons…but we’ll see how far I get.

And this one. Interesting…but what is it? A Ropa? A Schaube? A dress? Bueller?

Edit 1: OMG - it has been so long since I have pulled out my material for this project, that I completely forgot that the YELLOW wool is for my husband Schaube and the GREEN wool is for me. *head desk* Oh well, I have plenty of both and I love the green too....
