To the 20 Year Old Me,

I am writing to thank you for a few things that you may not realize are worth your future self’s gratitude.

First of all, thank you for being spontaneous and fearless. Yes, fearless. I know you think that you spend all day hemmed in by choices, but be sure to appreciate how often you just *do* the deed and deal with the consequences if/when they come. This has gotten your hand slammed by the cookie jar lid a number of times, but it has also gotten you a lot of delicious cookies.

Thank you for taking your college classes seriously, I know you will keep showing up all the way until the end. The work may not get you what you are looking for, but it holds all the real lessons you needed. While I am at it, be sure to keep insisting on taking all those dance classes (even though they “don’t have a practical application” and will probably wreck your knees). Totally. Worth it.

Finally, thank you for following your heart even when it leads you into the weeds. Nice guys, jerks, they’ll all show you things you need to know. I know right now it’s hard to see how the tears are going to help you in the end.

Now go play hooky, eat a pint of ice cream and kiss someone who sends your heart (and your knickers) flying! The bumps and bruises make for wonderful memories.
