Pele Update

I called my vet today and left a message for a notation to be added to charts that included a phone consult on a thyroid test, inflammatory disease panel and lumbrosacral stenosis.  Weird as it sounds, I am sorta hoping for the later since it appears that it may be controllable with injections and may not be as likely to progress despite treatment the way that DM seems to.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with Jim of GAC. That man is a wealth of information! He referred me to his San Diego vet (who is also the medical directory of the organization) and I will be having my doctor call her as soon as possible to go over what we can do next for Pele.

Little girls is resting happily at present - she hates all the supplements that Mommy is making her take. I am going to try mixing them into some peanut butter and putting them in her Kong instead on making her swallow them. I am sure she will appreciate it!

I used to put Jack's pills in wads of peanut butter. Sometimes I could just place them in his dry food and he would eat them. I also resorted to canned dogfood meatballs. Especially for the huge horse pill sized antibiotics. He would get pretty resistant to those after a while.
I hope you get some answers soon on your puppy princess.

I tried crushing up the mineral pills and cutting open the liquid gels and mixing them in her peanut butter for her Kong. Now I just need to make sure she eats from the black Kong and Fritz eats from the red one....*chuckle*

The dog that is my default icon was my heart and soul. I lost her suddenly. *gack* It's been 8 years, and here I am tearing up for both of us. *gets tissue* Anyway, I applaud your willingness to go many extra miles in order to help your friend and I sincerely wish her and you all the best! It sounds like you're both on top of things and she couldn't be in better hands. :-)

Thank you honey, I appreciate you dropping by and sharing your experiance with me. Sorry to hear about your friend, hoping I won't be asking you to pass the tissue anytime soon!

*hugs*

Its good to hear Jim has been a big help. He was always there for us and always had some great information and contacts!

Again, anything we can do please let me know! Pele is the best dog I've ever known.

Will do Jeff, thank you!

we used to make liverwurst meatballs for our dogs; small enough that they would swallow them whole.

you and pele are in my thoughts

Thank you honey, that kind of thing may work well. The peanut butter Kong's are good for most of the pills, but she doesn't like them once you add the fish oil pill juice. So maybe I will try the liverwurst for those...

*big hugs*

I hope that the news you get back is the 'better' news. Like the Lumpster said, if there is anything that we can do to help or whatnot, let us know.

We know that Pele is in a good home, and is loved. She is always in our thoughts and heart. Sending out all the positive thoughts I can.

There is also a wonderful community at Greytalk.com (http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?act=home) That is were we found people who make the fancy greyhound collars and also found out about Pele's race name (CanCan Katie) --but there are also a lot of health related topics there and a lot of people able to offer support and what-not.

Thank you honey, with the information from Jim in the hands of our vet, I am waiting to hear back on her news from the DVM in San Diego. I am curious to see what the review of Pele's last thyroid test will show: Greyhounds test low on a 'standard thyroid test' - so if her results were mid or high range (even in the 'acceptable results' scores) then she is actually way over for her breed.

*fingers crossed that this is just a thyroid issue*
