Powder Horns - Complete! (mostly....)

For those who are keeping score, I have *no idea* what number this post is in the series on black-powder cord making. However, I can tell you (*crosses fingers*) that this is the last post on the cords for the powder horns. OK, it's the last post until hubby makes the screwdriver/vent pick tools and I have to figure out how to mount them on their leashes...

Anyway, here's were I left the progress last time. I wasn't really 100% thrilled with the way my powder horn strap had turned out (mostly because it wasn't long enough), but I had determined that I was *not* going to cut it off and remake it!

Instead, I was going to work on the hubby's powderhorn. With a three day weekend, I had time for some projects - expect multiple entries today - and this was one I had determined needed to be done. To be honest, I wanted it off my slate and I also wanted to be able to show off (What? I have an ego too!) when Dale Shinn comes into town tomorrow to deliver my gun...

*pause for happy dance!*

Anywho, this is how the hubby's horn leash turned out:

.

The little corb bit that is hanging out the end of his tassle - yes, that is my sorry excuse for a tassle - is going to be his screwdriver/ventpick tool leash...someday.

Having tried his powderhorn on for fit - perfect! - I quickly realized that there was *no way* my leash was going to be long enough. *le sigh*

So, back to the drawing board: I cut the old version of my leash off the powder horn and got to work on a nice, new version.

For future reference, each of the 'loops' on these eight loop lace bend braids is 5+ yards long. I am weaving them from the mid-point out. The resulting leash has some extra left on the ends for things like tassles, tool leashes, etc.

The new version of my flask leash:

Success!!! (erm....again? *grin*)

I did a couple of 'upgrade on the decor for this item while I was remaking it. There are now larger bone beads that will match the beads on my bandoleer strings at the ends of string/cords. I also did a different version of the covered button:

I am very happy with the results!
