Well, I can see how it can be so long if the zopfe is wrapped several times around the head. In the traditional folk costume in the south of Sweden a so called "piglock" is worn by the unmarried women. This style of costume is very much based on german 16th century fashions, I've based a lot of things from my Wulsthaube from the old types of headgear worn in this region.
